OUR RETREAT SPEAKER:
I, Ardys Carpenter, have just completed my term of service at First Baptist Church of Mattoon, retiring in September of 2007.  During my 40 years there, my service to the Lord was in several capacities, mostly music leadership.  In 1988, I became a full-time staff person serving as Minister of Music & Christian Education.  My training was at Eastern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor of Education in Music.  I taught in the public education arena for 3 years, teaching general music, instrumental, and vocal at all age levels.  For 15 years after that I gave private piano and vocal lessons while continuing choir directing at FBC.  My husband David, also retired, served in the Neoga Illinois School District as an administrator for 28 years.  We have 2 daughters, Cara and Megan, who have blessed us with four grandchildren: two grandsons, ages 5 and 3, and two grand-daughters born 2 weeks apart this fall. I continue to serve in the church leading the women's "Can Do" ABW Circle and directing the Mission Kids Curriculum on Wednesday nights.  My role as "mom" and "grandma" are my main calling now.  I look forward to devoting this time of my life to spiritually mentoring my family and others.
